Woohoo..today is my day! Music exam for the musically untalented.
Seriously, even though i already knew i couldn't pass on first attempt..i really did practiced hard. Ok, i spend like 2-3 hours a day since the start of the hols...and last night i practised till 11.30pm.
Honestly, the test was a worthwhile experience (despite at the expense of CT). I screwed up almost every component. Improvisation A and B, sight playing (3 flats-i almost fainted when i saw the score sheet) and somehow..my songs lost the expression i usually had. I was so stiff. Haha..i realised I tend to play 8 beat songs (disco songs). Maybe cos I listen to a lot of pop songs, so the 'feel' is there.
This is the first time in my whole life someone told me 'YOU DUN UNDERSTAND MUSIC'. The examiner told me that. She said I lacked the feel, beat and appreciation of music. Quite true. I didn't really play on beat, cos the timing and phrasing and wadever music terms was all LOST!!! I was soooooo nervous. I learnt that higher grade music required not only you being able to perform, you must understand why this instrument is used, why is phrasing being used ect... Cos i realised feeling is very important in songs as well as the other components. No feeling, no point playing the song. You're just killing someone's creation. The most difficult part is putting your feelings into a song written by someone else. You feel different from the composer. So how do you bring out your own feelings and style, that is something i think I can learn from this exam.
I want to pass Grade 5 and move on to grade 4. I love music. I want to retake Grade 5 after A levels. I want to understand music. Something I gotta aim for this two years.
